Last year I made this pullover, called Banstead.
I liked the pattern, and loved the yarn. But I hate this sweater. It is too big and horribly unflattering. I wore it a couple of times last year, and then I wore it on Election Day. I was in denial because I had put so much work in, I wanted to be able to wear it.
So yesterday as I was driving around drinking a giant Wawa coffee, I formulated a plan for Extreme Sweater Makeover, the Banstead Edition. I would shorten the sweater, and make it into a cardigan.
I put in some basting stitches where I planned to cut, then I sewed 2 lines with my sewing machine just in from the basting . Here is the sweater after I cut it:
So now I am knitting garter around the bottom edge, then button bands, and I'll have a new cardigan!

What a fantastic idea!! I can't wait to see it when the makeover is finished!!
Great save!!! I look forward to seeing the finsihed product.
Great idea for a makeover. I love cardigans.
You're so clever. I was thinking about some sweaters (store bought) that I gave away a few years ago because crew neck sweaters didn't give the heat from the hot flashes a place to escape. :) It occurred to me last week that I could have saved them by doing this!
OMG, you are a brave woman! I would never have the nerve to do that! I'm so glad you are able to save it because it is a fabulous sweater and oh so much work went into it. After the holidays, I'm going to tackle a sweater for myself again.
