On The Needles - Friday Nov 2

On my needles this week: I went way back and resurrected my Clapotis, which I apparently started in February 2010.  Here is the amazing thing about the effect of the internet on knitting- over 19000 people have made this pattern! (and most of them did not take more than 2 years, but we won't go into that!)

Way back then I wandered into a yarn store, announced that I wanted to make a Clapotis and asked what yarn I should buy.  Thankfully the owners were internet savvy, so knew what pattern I was talking about, but  more than 2 years later, I am getting a little miffed that they somehow talked me into yards and yards of fingering when the pattern called for a much heavier yarn.   Since the project is so long term, it is like a fossilized history of my knitting- one end has mostly twisted stitches, towards the middle I start some serious rowing out , where my purl rows are so different than my knit ones it creates textural differences between the rows. Now at this end I am working on now, things seem more even, but I also think my tension is much more relaxed, so it might get a little wider.

Also this week, I knit a Calorimetry (another internet sensation with nearly 15000 projects listed on Ravelry!)  This was my hurricane knitting, and it is super easy as long as you use stitch markers to keep track of your short rows.

Check out what's on the needles, over at On the needles Friday at Patchwork Times!

At least you didn't completely abandon your scarf and it shows your history. Finish it and wear it proud. :)
I love the yarn you used for the head scarf. I made myself one last year and love it but your is so much prettier I think I'll make another one.

I thought you might feel better knowing that it took me 4 years and that the dye lots on mine don't match. Yours is lovely.

Oddly enough,Karen, that does make me feel better! Oh yes, I have issues with my skeins not matching, even though the dye lots are the same. I started alternating skeins at some point, and it helps some with pooling, too. the ends are all one skein so that is another 'line' that will be visible upon close observation.

I made a Clap this year. I used fingering weight and it turned out fine. It was fun, a bit boring, but perfect tv knitting.

I get distracted and put a project down for a period of time....some socks have taken me over a year, so Clapotis in 2 or 4 would be quite reasonable to me! Keep going, you are probably the only one who will notice the differences in the end.

My Clapotis isn't languishing, but its yarn is! Got the yarn and never started. Also have that headband pattern somewhere....you're way ahead of me on both counts. lol
